The world lost a scientist last month. He was a friend of mine. He was a Microbiologist. He actually created a stable liquid culture of two different microbes, and then he measured how much they were each using the nutrients and by products… First, I was taught in microbiology graduate school that it was impossible to grow two bacteria together! One would just grow faster than they other and how would you keep track or what’s going on? Second, this kind of culturing and learning about how bacteria share nutrients and by products will be necessary if we are ever to understand our own guts…
We need people who love science and devote their lives to it. But do we treat those people well?
