Dear friends, thank you for coming on this ride with me. Since I founded MJG in 2014, a lot has happened. The state of public understanding of molecular cell biology is more important than ever. How can you trust someone if you don’t understand the words they are using? All of these last 6 years, I remained constant, unwavering in my determination to make molecules as well loved and understood as zombies. How to manage this, who can help, what would people enjoy playing, how will I pay for it? These questions have weighed me down. Additionally, I needed a new skill. My biochemistry knowledge and experience (1997 – 2008) my education research experience (2008 – well, still doing education research) were not enough to create a video game. I needed to learn to design, scope, and manage the development of a video game. So I did.
So. A product is on its way. A plan is on its way. The goal is still to teach the average person the vocabulary needed to understand and be confident in their understanding of how a virus gets inside a cell. But the topic isn’t immunology or microbiology, per se. The game is not Immune Defense. I will tell you all about it in the new year, like in 1 week!!!
In the meantime, please offer me your encouragement! Please comment here, or review a game on the ScienceGameCenter.org, or offer me encouragement on Twitter @MolecularJig Tell me what did you love about Immune Defense? What do you love about my mission? Why do you keep reading this blog? What kind of game do you hope I’m planning? Why do you think molecular cell biology is cool? Please communicate with me and let’s all feel hopeful and competent together as we face 2021.
I really look forward to your next game. Immune Attack compresses 200 hours of intuition into an hour of gameplay… that shows the promise
🙂 Thanks!! I agree, intuition about proteins is the best way to learn! Thank you for your support!
Oh boy! ? I’m excited to hear what you have in store.
Way to keep up the good fight. It’s a joy to know you. ❤
Melanie, you are an inspiration. Your games are beautifully creative and fun to play, and your boundless enthusiasm for making science fun is contagious. And then there’s your dedication to the Science Game Center website, which as far as I can see is unique in the world. Keep up the good work!
Thank you, so much! I’m planning to do more ScienceGameCenter social media! You and your work are also an inspiration for me!
I’m hyped to see the direction of your new work. We could all use more support in understanding the constant microbiology-related news in 2020 that’s still going to be a main part of our lives for quite some time!
I forgot to include the amazing friendships I have made since 2014. My peers and friends have relentlessly pushed me towards new levels of understanding of myself and game development!
I’m excited about the future! I think this is going to be very useful to people.
Thank you, so much!!
I’m super excited to find out what you’ve got planned! Your mission is so important, and I agree with it enthusiastically.
You rock!
Thank you, Kristen! Thank you for all your support and collaboration!
This is important work that needs to happen- in a year where microbiology has touched everyone we need to bring education and knowledge to everyone. Wishing you success!
Thank you for you consistent encouragement! 🙂
